The prospect of a Jeff Buckley biopic has reared its head this week with the news that such a movie is indeed in the pipeline, to be directed by Jake Scott, the British director (and Ridley Scott’s son) famous for his music videos and documentaries.
The movie, as reported on by Spacelab as well as many other portals, has a script written by Ryan Jaffe and has Buckley’s mother Mary Guibert as executive producer. Such a film has been floated many times since the singer died aged 30 in a drowning accident in a channel of the Mississippi River in 1997.
Inevitably, the contentious issue of who should play the angel-voiced one has reared its head, with all of Robert Pattinson, James Franco, Brad Pitt and others mentioned. However, the physical resemblance between Buckley and Matt Dillon surely makes the latter a leading candidate, no? The two were also mates.
In tribute, here is one of the most amazing things Buckley ever did, a live version of his father Tim’s majestic track I Never Asked To Be Your Mountain, as performed in St Anns Church, New York at a 1991 tribute concert for his dad, before Jeff got all famous.
